SYRACUSE – The Conestoga girls turned Friday night’s game against Syracuse into a winning tale of two halves.
The Cougars captured a 56-46 comeback victory in the final regular-season contest of the winter. Conestoga trailed 25-16 at the break but erupted for 40 points in the second half. The Cougars posted 16 points in the third quarter and added 24 points in the final period. The team outscored the Rockets 40-21 in the last 16 minutes.
CHS used aggressive play on offense to create a host of free-throw opportunities. The team took advantage of many of those chances throughout the evening. Conestoga finished 23-of-32 from the stripe in the game.
Autumn Hardesty helped the Cougars with 24 points, four assists, one rebound and one steal. She went 12-of-17 from the free-throw line and sank five field goals.
Sierra Kile finished 9-of-11 from the foul line during her 23-point evening. She added six rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block.
Gloria Izquierdo pitched in six points, ten rebounds, seven assists and one steal for the Cougars. Sophia Svanda posted one point, five rebounds and one block and Courtney Wagner had two points and two rebounds. Alexa Vogler tallied one board and one assist and Anna Raisanen collected one assist, one block and one steal.
Conestoga and Syracuse will square off in a rematch Tuesday night. The teams will play in the Subdistrict C1-2 Tournament at Weeping Water Activities Center at 7:30 p.m.
