OMAHA – Conestoga wrestlers penciled their names into the state tournament scorebook this week with multiple matches at CenturyLink Center Omaha.
The Cougars squared off with opponents from across Nebraska at the Class C State Meet. Conestoga tied for 36th place in team standings with 12 points. CHS athletes competed in Class C matches on Thursday morning, Friday morning, Friday night and Saturday morning.
Dawson Hardesty finished his season 31-23 at 106 pounds. Zach Zitek of David City Aquinas won a first-round match by pin Thursday morning. Wood River’s Carson Thompson collected a victory by pin in the first round of consolations Friday morning.
Braden Ruffner completed his campaign with a 33-21 mark at 113 pounds. Broken Bow’s Casey Faulkenberry posted a major decision in the first round Thursday morning. Noah Scott of David City Aquinas decisioned Ruffner in the first round of consolations Friday morning.
Cameron Williams ended his season 28-19 at 120 pounds. Top-ranked Gage Krolikowski of Valentine secured a first-round pin Thursday morning. Centennial’s Gaven Schernikau collected a victory by pin in the opening round of consolations Friday morning.
Dawson Hogue captured a fifth-place medal at 138 pounds. He finished his season with a 46-11 mark. Hogue defeated Kearney Catholic’s Zach Rogers 3-2 in the first round on Thursday, and Norfolk Catholic’s Arik Seymour edged him 7-6 in the quarterfinals. Hogue swept his next two consolation matches on Friday to guarantee himself a medal. David City’s Justin White won a consolation semifinal Saturday morning and Hogue stopped Seymour 8-1 in the fifth-place contest.
Dylan Giles ended his season 44-10 at 220 pounds. Broken Bow’s Treyvon Brooks posted a pin in Thursday morning’s first round, and Giles rebounded with an 8-4 victory over Centura’s Austin Simmons in the consolation round. Johnson County Central edged Giles 8-5 in the second round of consolations.
