MILFORD – The Elmwood-Murdock girls arrived at Milford High School on Saturday eager to challenge Diller-Odell for the district championship.

Diller-Odell passed a stern test from the Knights with stout defense during the day.

The Griffins secured a berth in the state tournament with a 44-35 victory in the District C2-1 Final. Diller-Odell (20-4) rallied from an early 13-10 deficit by holding Elmwood-Murdock to six combined points in the second and third quarters. The team then held off E-M’s comeback bid in the final eight minutes.

Diller-Odell made assists on nine of its 13 baskets and finished the day with ten steals and 13 free throws. The Griffins committed just seven turnovers and received big performances from seniors Madison Hajek and Madison Jurgens. Hajek scored 22 points and Jurgens collected 12 points.

Abby Meyer led Elmwood-Murdock with 23 points, ten rebounds and four blocks. Sydney Kunz generated three points, seven rebounds and three assists, and Steph Wenzel posted four points, six boards, two assists and one steal.

Lauren Justesen contributed three points and four rebounds and Maddy Lutz tallied two assists, one rebound and one steal. Sydney Anderson scored two points and Nicole Meyer collected one board and one block.

Elmwood-Murdock finished its campaign 15-10. The Knights secured a winning record for the sixth time in eight seasons. Lutz, Abby Meyer and Madison Mills were the team’s three seniors.

Diller-Odell will be the eighth seed in this week’s Class C-2 State Tournament. The Griffins will play top-seeded Crofton Thursday afternoon in the first round.
