Louisville Weeping Water American Legion Baseball 2018

DAVID CITY – Louisville/Weeping Water Junior Legion baseball players were seeded as one of the top four teams in the Area C4 Tournament.

The Lions fulfilled those expectations this week with several victories in the event.

Louisville/Weeping Water traveled to David City for four games in the postseason tournament. The team finished 2-2 during the trip and ended the summer campaign 9-11.

L/WW 12, Dwight 2

Fourth-seeded L/WW knocked off fifth-seeded Dwight in the opening round Friday afternoon. The Lions scored a solo run in the second inning and went up 3-0 in the third. The team then seized complete control of the game with eight runs in the fourth.

Nash Callahan generated three hits and two runs batted in for L/WW. Trenton Baier registered two hits, one walk and two RBI, and Braydon Yardley produced two hits and two RBI for the team.

Callahan and Scott Blumer combined on the pitching victory. Callahan had four strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings and Blumer tossed 1 2/3 innings.

L/WW 9, Wilber-Clatonia 1

The Lions dominated top-seeded Wilber-Clatonia in the winner’s bracket Saturday afternoon. Louisville/Weeping Water pounded ten hits and took advantage of seven W-C errors.

The Lions snapped a 1-1 tie with four runs in the top of the third inning. The team poured on the pressure from there. Louisville/Weeping Water scored once in the fifth and added three runs in the sixth.

Gwyer Leach helped the team’s offense with two hits and two RBI. Davis Carlson collected two hits and Baier delivered two RBI. Blumer had one hit and one walk, Yardley tallied one walk and one RBI and Treyton Savage drew two walks.

Carlson, Savage and Blumer all tossed strikes on the mound for L/WW. Carlson pitched 2 2/3 innings, Savage went 2 1/3 innings and Blumer threw two innings.

Wymore 9, L/WW 3

Wymore pitcher Paxton Mohr limited Louisville/Weeping Water’s offense in Sunday night’s contest. Mohr tossed six innings and scattered six hits. He struck out five Lions and threw 14 first-pitch strikes.

Seventh-seeded Wymore jumped out to a 5-1 lead after two innings and kept that margin through four frames. Louisville/Weeping Water narrowed the score to 5-3 in the top of the fifth. Wymore pocketed four key insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth to ice the victory.

Yardley drove in one run for L/WW and Baier posted one hit. Carlson and Avery Heath each walked once for the Lions.

Third-seeded David City scored all of its runs in the first four innings of Monday night’s elimination-bracket matchup. The team crossed the plate four times in the opening inning and increased the lead to 9-0 over the next three stanzas.

Louisville/Weeping Water worked its way back into the game with five runs in the bottom of the sixth. David City was able to prevent additional erosion of its lead in the final frame.
