Plattsmouth American Legion Baseball 2018

PLATTSMOUTH – Plattsmouth and Nebraska City baseball players circled the diamond many times Thursday night during a high-scoring doubleheader at Blue Devil Park.

Nebraska City 13, Plattsmouth Juniors 9

The Pioneers jumped ahead of Plattsmouth in the second inning of the opening game. The team broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in the second and five runs in the third. Braydon Betts and Jacob Shannon both posted key at-bats in the stretch.

Plattsmouth worked back into the game in the bottom of the third. The Blue Devils chopped a 10-2 deficit to 10-6 in the frame. The team then attempted a second rally in the final inning. Plattsmouth turned a 13-6 margin to 13-9 before Nebraska City collected the last out.

Logan Blotzer guided Plattsmouth’s offense with three runs batted in. Betts had two hits and four RBI and Shannon tallied three hits and two RBI for Nebraska City.

Nebraska City 13, Plattsmouth Seniors 12

The Senior Legion teams engaged in a back-and-forth battle for more than three hours. The squads combined for 11 runs in the first inning and finished the game with 18 hits.

Plattsmouth rallied from a 5-0 deficit with a six-run outburst in the bottom of the first inning. Nebraska City responded with three runs in the second, but Plattsmouth countered with three runs of its own over the next two innings.

The Pioneers tied the scoreboard at 9-9 in the fourth and went ahead 12-9 in the fifth. Plattsmouth got its offense rolling again in the sixth with three runs. Nebraska City went ahead 13-12 in the seventh and escaped Plattsmouth’s scoring bid in the bottom of the frame.

Tucker Anderson helped the Blue Devils with three hits. Nathan Konkler generated three RBI and Connor Pohlmeier drew three walks. Jack Glup and Aaronn Aho each added two walks for the Blue Devils.

Alex Breazile led Nebraska City with four RBI. Trent Fahey had three walks and two RBI and Garrett Bassinger and Dylan Knoell each had two hits.
