PLATTSMOUTH – Plattsmouth athletes took advantage of positive weather conditions Thursday afternoon by playing winning golf against Platteview.

The Blue Devils defeated the Trojans in the annual “Battle of the Plattes” dual at Bay Hills Golf Club. Plattsmouth won the event by a score of 2 1/2 matches to 1 1/2 matches.

Golfers played under a format similar to Ryder Cup competitions. They formed two-person teams and went head-to-head against the other school for nine holes. Golfers completed three holes under a best-ball scoring system and three holes in a scramble-type format. The additional three holes took place under an alternate-shot system.

A team of Platteview golfers edged Plattsmouth’s Carson Blecke and Kaleb Church in the opening matchup. Plattsmouth’s Garrett Krauth and Levi Flaherty won their battle 5-4, and the PHS team of Ryan Oatman and Zach Shukis tied with Platteview.

Garrett Quinn and Brandon Matteo clinched the victory for Plattsmouth in their dual. The two Blue Devils defeated a mixed team of a Platteview golfer and PHS athlete Jack Alexander.

Devyn Smith, Luke Wright and Max Mueller also golfed for Plattsmouth during the day. They competed in a three-person group at the nine-hole event.
