RALSTON – Ralston ended Plattsmouth’s season Monday morning with a late rally against the Blue Devils.
The Rams scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the District B-1 Tournament game 8-7. Fourth-seeded Ralston and fifth-seeded Plattsmouth played in the first round of the postseason softball event.
The teams began their game Friday morning after heavy rainfall washed out all scheduled district contests on Thursday. The Blue Devils and Rams finished three full innings before they had to stop due to a new band of rain. The schools had hoped to play again on Saturday but poor weather prevented that from happening. They were able to resume the game midway through the top of the fourth inning at 8:30 a.m. Monday.
Plattsmouth wiped away a 6-2 deficit with scoring outbursts in the sixth and seventh innings. The Blue Devils plated two runs in the sixth and erupted for three runs in the seventh. The effort gave PHS a 7-6 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.
Ralston responded to the threat with a one-out rally. The team collected two runs to advance in the tournament. Ralston (13-18) lost to eventual district champion Gretna 11-3 in the next round of the single-elimination event. Gretna (20-5) defeated Omaha Skutt 8-0 in the district title game.
Adyson Blecke paced Plattsmouth’s offense with four hits, one walk and two runs batted in. Haylee Heim posted two hits and one walk and Breauna Marcoe and Sydni Haugaard each tallied two hits. Paige Druskis drove in two runs and Abbi Stanley walked once.
Plattsmouth finished the campaign with a 9-19 record. Marcoe, Stanley and Dawnee Wiles were the team’s three seniors. They helped the program win 38 games during their careers.
