PLATTSMOUTH – Last Friday, Cass County Sheriff Wm. C. Brueggemann reported the arrests of Louisville residents Kassandra A. Krutina, 20, and David J. Krutina Jr., 23, for felony child abuse.
The Krutinas are the parents of twin daughters, born last Feb. 19 prematurely at 27 weeks. After the twins were discharged from an intensive care unit, there was very little weight gain, according to the sheriff’s press release.
On Sept. 1, 2018, one daughter became unresponsive and was rushed to Children’s Hospital in Omaha where she passed away. The other daughter was also admitted to Children’s. Both twins were severely malnourished, according to the press release.
The second twin survived and is currently doing well in the custody of Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.
After an extensive investigation, arrest warrants were obtained, according to the press release. In Nebraska, child abuse resulting in death is a Class llA felony; and child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury is a Class lllA felony.
