PLATTSMOUTH – More than 150 adults and children now have better protection from the cold because of the warm hearts in the community.
That’s how many coats, including children’s sizes, were donated by the public during the recent coat drive sponsored by Gregg Young Auto Group of Plattsmouth.
And, there were many hats, mittens and gloves also donated.
“We are tickled to death by the response of the community,” said Paul Lambert, a Gregg Young employee.
During this campaign, people brought in their coats and other essentials to the Gregg Young Chevrolet dealership and placed in the back of a truck in the showroom.
“We overfilled it, which is wonderful,” Lambert said.
Many of the items were brand new, he added.
The donations were recently given to various charitable organizations in the area that then distributed the items to those in need, Lambert said.
“We couldn’t have done this without help from the community,” he said. “People in this area really care about others. We are very fortunate.”
Andy Therrian, Gregg Young managing partner, added, “We’re super excited that this went very well.”
When people came in with their donated items, they also had a chance to throw their name in the hat to win a 55-inch flat screen TV, courtesy of Gregg Young.
Last Friday, the winner was drawn. And, the lucky person was Neil Thomas, a Plattsmouth police officer.
