PLATTSMOUTH—Janet McCartney won re-election to the Cass County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday defeating Brad Cowan in the District 2 race.
Meanwhile, fellow commissioner Jim Peterson, who ran unopposed, will return serving District 3.
Those were the two seats up for the election this year of the five seats on the board.
However, there’s one county race from Tuesday’s election that’s still up in the air – the assessor’s position.
Lori Huebner, who was up for re-election in that position, recently resigned but too late to have her name removed from the ballot. Nobody came forth to register as a write-in candidate in an effort to receive more votes than Huebner so the open position now goes to the commissioners for resolution.
According to S. Colin Palm, county attorney, the board could either appoint someone to that position or hold a special election.
Palm, by the way, was re-elected as county attorney in that unopposed race. Others who won in unopposed races included Gerri Draper as county clerk, Barbara Prokupek as clerk of the district court, Cynthia Fenton as treasurer, Laura Pohlmeier as register of deeds and Bill Brueggemann as sheriff.
