A Life Net helicopter like this one will be on hand for inspection, weather permitting, at Sunday's Murray Fire and Rescue open house and health fair.

MURRAY – The Murray Fire and Rescue Department is hosting its annual open house and community health fair this Sunday.

The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the fire station, 818 E. Main St.

The department will offer free health checks, plus a chance to receive a flu shot. Also available will be blood pressure checks and cancer screening for men.

“We’ll also offer some different blood testing,” said Joe Spicciati, firefighter/EMT.

There will be a demonstration on proper hand washing, he said.

“After the hand washing the hands will be placed under an ultraviolet light to show any leftover dirt or germs,” Spicciati said. “It’s a good educational tool.”

The department will put on demonstrations on fire safety, and a Life Net helicopter will be on hand weather permitting, he said.

Lunch will be provided, he added.

The ever-growing event takes place every year during National Fire Safety Week, he said.

“It’s something to give back to the community,” Spicciati said.
