PLATTSMOUTH – The Shopko Hometown store in Plattsmouth is closing, sources confirmed to the Journal on Friday.
The store will close on April 7. Mayor Paul Lambert and City Administrator Erv Portis were aware of the closing, as well as the local chamber.
“It’s unfortunate,” Lambert said.
Signs posted on the store indicated all sales were final and items to be returned would not be accepted. Sales of up to 40 percent were occurring storewide.
Portis and Lambert both felt the closing was more about issues on the corporate local than lack of shoppers locally.
“It’s not a Plattsmouth issue,” Portis said.
“It’s not closing for lack of support locally,” Lambert said.
The store referred all comments be made from the corporate headquarters.
Lambert expressed hope another tenant could be found after Shopko leaves.
"It's an attractive building at a great location," he said.
This is a developing story with more details to come.
