EAGLE – A Weeping Water man was airlifted to a Lincoln hospital after his car collided with a loaded grain truck near Eagle.
Jace Keckler, 27, was injured Wednesday night after a two-vehicle accident on Highway 34 west of 250th Street. Cass County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Cass County paramedics, Eagle Fire and Rescue members and Nebraska State Patrol troopers all responded to the scene at 8:19 p.m.
Deputies said Eagle resident Arland Schroder, 70, was driving a grain truck westbound on Highway 34. He was slowing down to turn into a driveway when Keckler’s 2011 Volkswagen Jetta struck the rear of the grain truck.
Deputies said the force of the collision caused Keckler’s vehicle to go partially under the rear end of the loaded grain truck. Emergency workers were able to free Keckler from his car after the accident. A medical helicopter transported him to BryanLGH West in Lincoln for serious injuries. Schroder was not injured from the collision and declined treatment at the scene.
Deputies said they do not believe alcohol was a factor in the accident. They said they are investigating speed and driver distraction as possible causes.
