The Conestoga boys took part in a busy 24-hour span this weekend with a pair of basketball games against area opponents.
Conestoga 59, Malcolm 49
The Cougars traveled to Southeast Community College in Lincoln Friday afternoon for the East Central Nebraska Conference Tournament’s ninth-place game. Ninth-seeded Conestoga faced seventh-seeded Malcolm in the matchup.
The teams were tied at 23-23 in the second quarter before the Cougars used free throws from Kobe Gansemer and Lane Fox to go up 26-23. A late field goal from Alex Lamoureux created a 28-23 halftime gap.
Conestoga roared away from Malcolm in the third quarter. Treys from Jax Madsen and Ben Welch fueled a scoring run that resulted in a 40-27 lead. The Clippers cut the deficit to 42-36 but Conestoga responded with multiple baskets down the stretch.
Fox poured in 24 points for Conestoga and Koby Vogler (12) and Madsen (11) both reached double figures. Welch posted nine points, Lamoureux had two points and Gansemer scored one point.

Fort Calhoun 53, Conestoga 44
Conestoga hosted the Pioneers Saturday afternoon in a game that had been postponed by weather earlier this season. Fort Calhoun rallied from a 15-9 deficit with 35 points in the middle two quarters.
The Cougars will continue their season with games Monday and Tuesday. The team will travel to Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer for a 6:15 p.m. contest Monday. Conestoga will journey to Sidney, Iowa, on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. matchup.
