Conestoga football 2018

MALCOLM – Malcolm used a variety of scoring plays to secure a home victory over Conestoga Friday night.

The Clippers produced five rushing and two passing touchdowns in a 46-6 triumph. Grant Burbach and Katon Thomas led Malcolm’s offense out of the backfield. Burbach rushed for 155 yards and four touchdowns and Thomas produced 139 yards and one score on the ground. Quarterback Adam Stewart added a pair of touchdown tosses for the team.

Malcolm (2-5) led off the game with a short touchdown run. The team created a 20-0 gap with two additional scoring runs, and Stewart then capped a drive with a 1-yard touchdown pass. The Clippers built their lead to 40-0 at halftime and posted their final touchdown in the third quarter.

Conestoga jumped on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter. Mason Jensen completed a drive when he sprinted 28 yards into the end zone. He finished the game with 18 rushing yards and nine passing yards.

Josiah Nolting ran for 14 yards and Keaghon Chini had seven rushing yards for the Cougars. Buck Welch chipped in four rushing and nine receiving yards.

Hunter Thonen helped Conestoga’s defense with five solo tackles and three stops behind the line of scrimmage. Welch, Jacob Dragon and Justin Pick all made three solo tackles, and Jensen, Dillon Leffler, Jaemes Plowman and Sam Thompson all contributed two solo stops. Thompson also recovered one fumble for Conestoga.

CHS (0-7) will host Wilber-Clatonia at Cougar Stadium Oct. 12. The district matchup is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Conestoga will hold Parents Night and Senior Night for both football and cross country during the evening. Football recognition will take place before the game and cross country recognition will take place at halftime.
