AUBURN – Conestoga volleyball athletes played a pair of the top teams in the East Central Nebraska Conference Tuesday night in Auburn.
Freeman 2, Conestoga 0
Freeman defeated the Cougars 25-13, 25-7 in Conestoga’s first match of the triangular. Freeman posted a .538 team hitting percentage and made 16 kills on 26 swings. The Falcons also went 32-of-35 serving with nine aces.
Myah Cummings and Lindee Watson each led Conestoga’s offense with two kills apiece. Both Cougars also made one dig. Riley Zimmerman chipped in five digs, four assists and one kill and Teegan Giles produced two aces and one dig.
Addi Andersen compiled one ace, two digs and three serve receptions. Sydney McPeek posted 12 serve receptions and five digs and Naomi Simones made four digs, one assist and 11 serve receptions. Mattie Haizlip collected five serve receptions and five digs and Allison Lewien made three ace blocks. McKenna Crook pitched in one dig for the Cougars.
Auburn 2, Conestoga 0
The ECNC Tournament champions stopped Conestoga 25-7, 25-7 in the nightcap. Jocelyn Lambert helped the Bulldogs with five kills on seven swings. Kathryn Kudrna went 14-of-14 serving with three aces and Rachel Bohling finished 7-of-7 at the line with two aces.
Haizlip, Lewien and Watson all made one kill for the Cougars. Lewien added a pair of ace blocks and Haizlip collected five serve receptions and a team-best eight digs. Watson chipped in four serve receptions in the match.
Zimmerman generated six digs and two assists and McPeek made five digs and eight serve receptions. Simones tallied six serve receptions and four digs, Giles had three digs and three serve receptions and Cummings produced four serve receptions and one dig. Andersen added two digs and one serve reception.
Conestoga will resume its season Monday, Oct. 29, in the Subdistrict C1-3 Tournament at Platteview High School. The fifth-seeded Cougars will play fourth-seeded Boys Town at 5 p.m. The winner will take on top-seeded Omaha Brownell-Talbot at 7:30 p.m. The championship match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30.
