Athletes from two local softball programs have earned conference recognition for their achievements on area diamonds this season.
East Central Nebraska Conference coaches selected players for league honors at their recent postseason meeting. They placed students on first, second and honorable mention teams.
Cass County Central senior Meagan Mackling was named to the All-ECNC First Team. The veteran shortstop posted a .918 fielding percentage with 69 defensive assists and 54 putouts. She was involved in six double plays.
Mackling led the Crush with team-best marks in batting average (.403), on-base percentage (.471) and hits (31) this season. She collected 23 singles, seven doubles, one triple and nine walks and reached base nine times on errors. Mackling drove in 15 runs, scored 14 times and went 10-for-10 on steal attempts.
Cass County Central sophomore Lauren Votta and Conestoga seniors Alexa Vogler and Hannah Vogler were named to the All-ECNC Second Team.
Votta generated a .354 batting average and .416 on-base percentage for the Crush. She delivered 21 singles, four doubles, two triples, one home run, 15 RBI, 14 runs and eight walks.
Votta played both third base and catcher for the team during the year. She threw out six runners trying to steal bases and produced a .969 fielding percentage. She ended the year with 35 defensive assists and 58 putouts.
Alexa Vogler and Hannah Vogler both played key roles for Conestoga on defense. Alexa Vogler was the starting shortstop and Hannah Vogler saw time both in center field and the pitching circle.
Alexa Vogler generated a .967 fielding percentage and made 41 defensive assists and 47 putouts. She was involved in one double play. Hannah Vogler finished with an .898 fielding percentage. She collected 23 defensive assists and made 21 putouts. She was involved in a pair of double plays for Conestoga.
Alexa Vogler batted .318 and had 16 singles, four doubles and one triple. She ended the year with 14 runs, 18 RBI, ten walks, four hit-by-pitches and three stolen bases.
Hannah Vogler batted .419 and had 26 singles, seven doubles and one triple. She ended the year with 14 runs, nine RBI, three walks and six stolen bases.
Cass County Central sophomores Jennifer Katz and Reba Wilson, Conestoga senior Sierra Dragoo and Conestoga junior Megan Poteet were honorable mention selections.
Katz helped the Crush with a .275 batting average and .341 on-base percentage. She collected 19 singles, two doubles, one triple, seven walks, 13 RBI and 15 runs. She reached base on errors eight times and swiped a pair of bases.
Katz posted a .925 fielding percentage with 20 defensive assists and 29 putouts. She went 3-5 in the pitching circle with a 5.29 earned run average. Katz registered 36 strikeouts and faced 233 batters in 46 1/3 innings.
Wilson batted .342 and compiled a .407 on-base percentage. She ended the campaign with 19 singles, six doubles, one triple, four walks, 16 RBI and 19 runs. Wilson was struck by pitches five times, reached on errors three times and stole three bases.
Dragoo produced a .959 fielding percentage and made eight defensive assists and 85 putouts. She finished the year with 14 singles, 15 runs, nine walks, five RBI and two sacrifices. She helped the team’s offense with eight steals.
Poteet batted .308 with 15 singles, three doubles and two home runs. She drove in a team-best 25 runs and added nine runs and one walk.
Poteet produced a .932 fielding percentage for the Cougars. She made 13 defensive assists and 56 putouts and was involved in two double plays.
