2018 Elmwood-Murdock volleyball

LINCOLN – Elmwood-Murdock athletes tuned up for the postseason this past weekend with a series of matches at the Lincoln Christian Invite.

The Knights captured seventh place in Saturday’s tournament. Elmwood-Murdock defeated Yutan and fell to Wahoo and Lincoln Christian during the day. The team saw its season mark change to 14-15.

Wahoo 2, Elmwood-Murdock 0

State-ranked Wahoo stopped the Knights 25-19, 25-11 in the opening round. Wahoo (28-2) later defeated ranked opponent Lincoln Lutheran in the tournament championship match.

Lauren Justesen was successful on 16 of her 17 attacks and hit .353 with seven kills. She also made six digs and five serve receptions. Nicole Meyer posted kills on five of her eight swings and added one ace, one assist and three serve receptions.

Elyse Drake helped the Knights in both the service and defensive departments. She finished 10-of-10 at the line with one ace and registered three digs and 12 serve receptions. Paetyn Florell pocketed three kills, three digs and two assists, and Sydney Kunz tallied one ace, four digs, nine assists and three serve receptions.

Chloe Hosier made one dig and four serve receptions, Sydney Anderson produced four serve receptions and Katelyn Vogler had two digs, one assist and four serve receptions. Brianna Scattergood collected one kill and Nicole Wenzel had one ace and one dig. Kylee Synovec chipped in one dig and one block for the Knights.

Lincoln Christian 2, Elmwood-Murdock 1

LCHS rallied past the Knights 14-25, 25-13, 25-14 in the consolation bracket. Thayer Central had edged Lincoln Christian 18-25, 25-21, 25-22 in the opening round.

Justesen guided E-M’s offense with eight kills and two aces. She added team-best marks in both digs (15) and serve receptions (9) and tacked on one ace block.

Drake produced two aces, eight digs and seven serve receptions for the Knights. Meyer made three kills, two aces, one ace block and four serve receptions, and Hosier pocketed three digs, three assists, one ace and one serve reception.

Kunz posted eight assists, one kill, one ace, five digs and one serve reception for E-M. Wenzel made one kill, Vogler posted one dig and four serve receptions and Florell had one serve reception. Faith Offner collected two digs and five serve receptions, Anderson tallied two digs and one serve reception and Scattergood had one dig and one serve reception.

Elmwood-Murdock 2, Yutan 0

Elmwood-Murdock dominated Yutan 25-10, 25-16 in the seventh-place match. The Knights posted a .404 team hitting percentage and carded ten aces and 37 service points.

Meyer propelled E-M’s scoring attack with a .769 hitting percentage. She went 13-of-13 on her attacks and finished with ten kills. Justesen generated seven kills on 12 swings and added 16 digs and seven serve receptions. Kunz guided the team’s serving game with four aces during her 22-of-23 performance. She also made one kill, three digs and 12 assists.

Scattergood connected on two kills and Florell pocketed four kills and one assist. Drake delivered four aces, one dig and three serve receptions, Wenzel tallied two aces and three digs and Hosier had two digs and seven assists.

Vogler made two digs and five serve receptions and Anderson had two digs and one serve reception. Offner produced one dig and three serve receptions and Synovec collected one dig.
