WYMORE – Southern’s offensive linemen gave senior quarterback Drake Adams a chance to make plays Friday night with their work up front.

Adams took full advantage of his opportunities during the team’s home game against Elmwood-Murdock.

Adams led the Raiders to a 40-12 victory over the Knights. He ran 17 times for 102 yards and four touchdowns and went 7-of-14 passing for 192 yards and one score. He played a role in 70 percent of Southern’s total yards in the game.

Elmwood-Murdock (2-4) changed the scoreboard in its favor early in the first quarter. Drake Spohr capped a drive with a 6-yard touchdown run. Adams then helped Southern (2-4) jump ahead 12-6 with two short touchdown runs in the opening period.

Elmwood-Murdock tied things at 12-12 when Spohr delivered a touchdown run from the 8-yard line. The Raiders seized control of the contest after that. Adams gave Southern an 18-12 halftime lead, and his short scoring dive made it 26-12 in the third quarter. The team clinched the victory when Adams found Nick Lyons on a 60-yard scoring pass in the fourth quarter.

Jared Drake guided Elmwood-Murdock’s offense with 18 carries for 87 yards. Spohr ran 19 times for 54 yards and Andy Meyer gained nine yards on five carries. Jaxson Spellman gained four rushing yards, Massimo Lojing and Riley Rose each had three yards and Levi Offner posted one yard on the ground.

Spohr completed three passes for 45 yards, Noah Willey hit four targets for 35 yards and Offner completed one 18-yard pass. Lojing led the team’s receiving corps with four catches for 56 yards. Noah Jones made one 18-yard catch, Spohr caught two passes for 14 yards and Willey had one ten-yard reception.

Spohr and Lojing each played major roles for Elmwood-Murdock’s defense. Spohr finished with ten solo and nine assisted tackles and made five stops behind the line of scrimmage. Lojing ended his evening with seven solo and nine assisted tackles with one stop for loss.

Gus Pope recovered one fumble and Drake collected four solo and three assisted tackles for E-M. Meyer made one solo and six assisted tackles, Tyler Marlatt had one solo and four assisted stops and Carson vonRentzell made three assisted plays. Cody Kopf, Offner, Pope and Samuel Behrends all added one solo stop for the team.

Elmwood-Murdock will host Omaha Brownell-Talbot in the school’s Homecoming game Oct. 12. The teams are scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. in Elmwood.
