BOYS TOWN – Louisville runners squared off against a series of district schools Thursday afternoon during a postseason race at Boys Town.
The Lions competed in girls and boys events at the District C-1 Meet. The Louisville girls placed sixth in their contest with 100 points and the LHS boys captured fourth place with 77 points. The boys broke a tie with Boys Town in team standings by having a faster fifth-place runner.
“We ran our best times of the year,” Louisville head coach Matt Hammer said. “Getting fourth place is a good finish for the boys, and I thought the girls ran really well today. I’m proud of what they did because I thought they gave their best efforts.”
Doug Euans highlighted Louisville’s day by qualifying for the state meet with a tenth-place time of 18:29.30. Euans jumped into the top 15 spots after the first 1,000 meters and remained in the hunt for an automatic state berth. He held off several challenges from DC West, Conestoga and Boys Town runners to stay in his tenth-place perch.
Hammer said he believes Euans can be successful at the upcoming Class C State Meet. State action will take place at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at Kearney Country Club.
“Doug’s been running really well lately, so I think he can do a great job there,” Hammer said. “It will be his first state meet so it will be a new experience for him, but I think he’ll be able to handle everything really well.”
Trajan Trent compiled the best time of his career with a 16th-place mark of 18:41.50. He improved his previous personal-best effort by 33 seconds. Scott Blumer (19:10.60, 23rd), Jaxson Barnes (31st, 19:33.80), Tyler Hiatt (42nd, 20:19.40) and Nate Krejci (47th, 20:46.20) all compiled times for the Lions.
Hailey Teller helped the Louisville girls with a 23rd-place performance of 23:50.00. She improved her previous personal-best time by 11 seconds and chopped nearly one minute from her league meet mark on Oct. 2.
Amyra Moxey (23:51.00, 24th) set a season-best time by more than one minute, and Katie Kerans and Abby Bruce both finished in the top 40. Kerans was 37th in 26:14.60 and Bruce was 38th in 27:01.70. Sophie Habrock (48th, 28:54.40) and Kerigan Juracek (49th, 29:06.10) both added times for the team.
