2018 Elmwood-Murdock volleyball

MURDOCK – Elmwood-Murdock closed its regular season Tuesday night with a pair of triumphs over conference opponents.

The Knights hosted Johnson County Central and Yutan for a league volleyball triangular. Elmwood-Murdock swept Johnson County Central 25-14, 25-15 and stopped Yutan 25-10, 25-16. E-M improved its season mark to 15-15.

Elmwood-Murdock took care of the Thunderbirds with a strong scoring attack. Nicole Meyer delivered seven kills on eight swings and Lauren Justesen produced seven kills on 16 attempts for the team. Brianna Scattergood chipped in two kills during the match.

That hitting prowess extended to the service game. Elmwood-Murdock finished 39-of-45 at the line with 11 aces. Meyer registered five aces, Elyse Drake posted two aces and Justesen, Chloe Hosier, Nicole Wenzel and Sydney Kunz all carded one kill.

Justesen added nine digs and one assist and Kunz produced 11 assists and three digs. Drake and Sydney Anderson each made four digs and Hosier collected two digs and two assists. Wenzel and Brenna Schmidt each chipped in one dig.

Elmwood-Murdock 2, Yutan 0

The Knights posted an electric .404 team hitting percentage against the Chieftains. Meyer led the charge with ten kills during her 13-of-13 attacking performance. Justesen registered seven kills on 12 swings and added 16 digs, one assist and seven serve receptions. Paetyn Florell helped the team’s cause with four kills on eight swings. She also made one assist and one serve reception.

Kunz gave the Knights a lift in the service game with four aces during her 22-of-23 performance. She added one kill, three digs, 12 assists and one serve reception. Drake carded four aces, one dig and three serve receptions, and Katelyn Vogler contributed two digs and five serve receptions.

Scattergood pocketed two kills, one dig and one assist, and Hosier handed out seven assists and made two digs and three serve receptions. Wenzel collected two aces and three digs, Faith Offner generated three serve receptions and one dig and Kylee Synovec made one dig. Anderson added one serve reception and two digs for the squad.

The Knights will resume their season Monday, Oct. 29, in the Subdistrict C2-1 Tournament at Weeping Water Activities Center. Third-seeded Elmwood-Murdock will face second-seeded Nebraska City Lourdes at 6:30 p.m. Top-seeded Palmyra and fourth-seeded Yutan will play in the other first-round match at 5 p.m. The winners will advance to that evening’s championship match at 8 p.m.
