2018 All-East Central Nebraska Conference Volleyball Selections from Cass County

Ten volleyball players from four Cass County schools learned Thursday morning that they had earned awards for their work on the court this year.

East Central Nebraska Conference volleyball coaches released lists of athletes on All-ECNC teams. Coaches selected players for spots on first, second, third and honorable mention squads during a postseason meeting.

Elmwood-Murdock junior Lauren Justesen and Louisville senior Avery Heard were both named to the league’s first team.

Justesen led the Knights with 279 kills on 750 attempts and posted a .252 hitting percentage. She generated team-best marks in both digs (346) and serve receptions (349) and collected 31 assists, 36 service aces and 62 service points. She also made 15 total blocks at the net.

Heard guided the Lions with 303 kills, 48 total blocks and a .303 hitting percentage. She took 792 swings and made 12 assists on offense, and she was second on the team with 284 digs on defense. She also went 291-of-316 serving with 22 aces for a .921 percentage.

Elmwood-Murdock seniors Nicole Meyer and Sydney Kunz, Louisville junior Faye Jacobsen and Weeping Water junior Peyton Barrett were all named to the league’s third team.

Meyer finished her season with 220 kills on 597 attempts and tallied a .273 hitting percentage. She made a team-best 53 total blocks and had 38 aces, 57 service points and a .907 serving percentage. She added 39 digs, 57 serve receptions and ten assists.

Kunz helped the Knights with team-best marks in assists (430), service aces (57), service points (115) and total serve attempts (446). She collected 148 digs, five blocks and 29 serve receptions on defense, and she generated 46 kills in her attacking role. She ended her four-year varsity career with 1,968 assists.

Jacobsen produced a .303 hitting percentage for Louisville. She collected 292 kills on 760 swings and had 35 aces and a .916 serving percentage. Jacobsen added 189 digs, nine assists and 37 total blocks for the team.

Barrett guided Weeping Water in multiple areas during the season. She delivered team-best marks in kills (211), hitting percentage (.148), total attacks (744), service aces (36), service attempts (249), digs (265) and serve receptions (297). She also made 15 assists and seven total blocks and had a .928 serving percentage.

Conestoga freshman Lindee Watson, Elmwood-Murdock junior Chloe Hosier, Louisville senior Olivia Zahn and Louisville junior Cassidy Niemoth were honorable mention selections.

Watson gave Conestoga positive production in various categories. She led the Cougars with 79 kills and added 134 digs, 227 serve receptions, 32 total blocks and six assists. She also made 12 aces and 40 service points at the line.

Hosier helped Elmwood-Murdock with 109 assists, 79 digs, 99 serve receptions and two kills. She produced a .932 serving percentage, 12 aces and 43 service points on 236 attempts.

Zahn steered Louisville’s offense in a positive direction with 752 assists. She added 209 digs, 17 total blocks, 19 kills and 13 service aces.

Niemoth led the Lions with 322 digs and a .954 serving percentage. She went 314-of-329 at the service line with 31 aces. She also tallied 146 kills, 14 total blocks and seven assists.
