The Louisville girls basketball team will attempt to qualify for its third state tournament in a four-year span Friday night. The Lions will take on Columbus Lakeview in the District C1-6 Final. The game will take place at 7 p.m. Friday at Fremont High School.

FREMONT – Louisville will try to continue the school’s recent legacy of state girls basketball tournament appearances this week.

The sixth-seeded Lions will take on 11th-seeded Columbus Lakeview in the District C1-6 Final. The schools will travel to Fremont High School for a 7 p.m. game Friday, Feb. 22. It will be the first time the teams have played this season. Both programs will travel approximately one hour to reach the site of the title contest.

The winner of Friday night’s matchup will earn a spot in the Class C-1 State Tournament. Louisville (21-3) will be seeking its third state tournament appearance in school history. The Lions finished fourth in 2016 and competed in the 2017 event.

Columbus Lakeview (17-7) will try to qualify for state for the sixth time. The Vikings played in the state tournament in 1981, 1984, 1989, 1990 and 1991. The program’s lone state victory came when the team edged Centura 44-40 in 1990.

Columbus Lakeview is a member of the Central Conference and has played teams from Classes B, C-1 and C-2 this season. The Vikings qualified for the district final by defeating Boone Central/Newman Grove 43-33 in the Subdistrict C1-8 Tournament last week.

Columbus Lakeview’s losses have come against Crete, Columbus Scotus, David City Aquinas, Milford, Lexington, Seward and York. The Vikings have defeated two teams with 18 or more victories this year. CLHS stopped Grand Island Northwest 52-50 and Centennial 67-58 in early January.

Louisville advanced to the district final Thursday night with a 66-32 triumph over Omaha Brownell-Talbot. The Lions dominated the Subdistrict C1-3 Tournament title game from the opening tip.

Meagan Mackling (16), Avery Heard (13) and Jordan Winkler (11) all scored in double figures for Louisville. Heard registered a double-double with ten rebounds and added four steals and one assist. Mackling produced three rebounds, three steals, three pass deflections and two assists, and Winkler tallied three assists, three steals and two rebounds.

Faye Jacobsen generated seven points, eight rebounds, five assists and one block. Maia Johnson contributed eight points, three boards and one assist, and Lauryn Kalkowski had three points, three rebounds and one assist.

McKenzie Norris pitched in five points and Olivia Zahn posted two rebounds and one steal. Juliette Andrews posted three points, one rebound and one pass deflection, and Skyler Pollock delivered one rebound, one assist and one steal. Lauren Votta made one rebound and one steal, Katie Kerans had one rebound and Erin Stohlmann provided defensive work.
