WAVERLY – The Waverly girls continued walking on their unbeaten path Thursday night with a league tournament victory over Plattsmouth.

The top-seeded Vikings defeated eighth-seeded PHS 72-34 in the quarterfinals of the Eastern Midlands Conference Tournament. Waverly improved to 14-0 and won by double digits for the eighth time this season. The Vikings advanced to a matchup with fourth-seeded Bennington in the semifinals.

Plattsmouth (4-12) remained within 7-5 in the early moments of the matchup. Waverly then seized control of the contest with 16 unanswered points in the first quarter. WHS led 41-18 at halftime and embarked on a 24-12 run in the third period.

Kira Leget guided Plattsmouth’s offense with 17 points. Chloe Sabatka scored four points, Kayla Harvey had three points and Bella Chappell and Taylor Caba each posted two points. Kennedy Miller added one point for the team.

Plattsmouth will resume its season Saturday with a road trip to Omaha Gross. The Blue Devils and Cougars are scheduled to tip off at 5:30 p.m.
