PLATTEVIEW – Plattsmouth and Platteview boys basketball teams matched each other on the scoreboard for most of their subdistrict championship contest.

The top-seeded Trojans were able to edge ahead of the Blue Devils in the final stretch.

Platteview stopped Plattsmouth 56-45 in the Subdistrict B-1 Tournament title game. The Trojans (17-8) defended their home court with a key run in the third quarter and free throws in the final minute.

Plattsmouth head coach Kevin Tilson said he was proud of the effort the Blue Devils gave throughout the game. The teams were tied at 27-27 early in the third quarter and Plattsmouth was within 51-45 with 0:57 on the clock.

“In tonight’s game we battled to the wire with Platteview,” Tilson said. “We were just unable to make a play when we absolutely had to make a play. Even though we lost by 11, the game was much closer than that.”

Third-seeded Plattsmouth signaled its intentions to stay close to Platteview with its first-quarter work. Hayden Stromsodt and Hunter Adkins both delivered early baskets, and a shot from Adkins gave PHS a 10-7 lead late in the period.

Platteview entered the second quarter up 15-14 and expanded the halftime gap to 27-23. Chandler Cole’s 3-pointer early in the third quarter cut the deficit to 31-30, and a basket from Adkins kept the margin 33-32.

Platteview gained space on the scoreboard with a seven-point run to end the third quarter. The team went ahead 45-35 with 2:43 left to go, but Plattsmouth rebounded with a comeback attempt. Tucker Anderson drained a 3-pointer and Stromsodt added an interior basket. Brandt Colbert’s trey with 0:57 to go then made it 51-45. Platteview iced the contest with foul shots after that.

Adkins guided the Blue Devils with 15 points, six boards and two assists. Stromsodt had 13 points, three rebounds and one assist, and Anderson finished with 11 points, eight rebounds, two assists and one steal.

Cole delivered three points, one rebound and one assist. Stockton Graham tallied five assists, five rebounds and one steal, and Colbert generated three points and four rebounds for PHS. Nolan Cherek and Dakota Minshall both provided defensive work for the team.

Plattsmouth finished its season 8-15. Anderson was the squad’s lone senior.

“I would like to thank our only senior Tucker Anderson for his commitment to the program the past four years,” Tilson said. “He has gone above and beyond for the betterment of the program.”
