BENNINGTON – The Plattsmouth boys felt they had a chance to spring an upset against second-seeded Bennington in the league basketball tournament Thursday night.

The Badgers kept that scenario from playing out with their effort on both ends of the floor.

Bennington stopped seventh-seeded Plattsmouth 64-38 in the quarterfinals of the Eastern Midlands Conference Tournament. The Badgers advanced to a semifinal matchup with sixth-seeded Waverly. The Vikings stunned third-seeded Elkhorn 39-34 in one of the other quarterfinals.

Plattsmouth (5-11) enjoyed success during the opening minutes of the game. Hayden Stromsodt sank several baskets to give the team a 6-5 lead.

Bennington (11-3) capitalized on many scoring chances after that. The team went on a 13-0 run and built a 23-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Badgers expanded the halftime gap to 34-15 and went up 54-24 at the third-quarter buzzer.

Bennington scored more than 60 points for the 12th time this season. The only times the team came up short of that mark were in a 45-44 victory over Gretna and a 70-51 loss to Omaha Skutt.

Stromsodt ended the evening with 12 points and six rebounds for Plattsmouth. Hunter Adkins tallied nine points, five rebounds and one assist, and Tucker Anderson contributed nine points, four rebounds and one assist.

Dakota Minshall collected five points, one rebound and one steal. Brandt Colbert posted three points, one rebound and one assist, Chandler Cole provided three rebounds and three assists and Stockton Graham had four assists and one rebound. Nolan Cherek grabbed five rebounds and made one steal in the game, and Ryan Oatman gave the team defensive work during the night.

Plattsmouth will have an opportunity to see the Badgers again this winter. The teams are scheduled to play a regular-season game at Plattsmouth on Friday, Feb. 1. Tip time is set for 7:30 p.m.
