OMAHA – Plattsmouth’s strategy of running in a pack helped the Blue Devils produce a successful result Thursday afternoon.
The PHS boys gained a spot in the upcoming Class B State Meet with their work at the District B-1 race. Plattsmouth placed second in the event with a team score of 46 points. The Blue Devils clinched one of three automatic team tickets to state. Omaha Skutt (15 points) and Ralston (50) also earned state bids.
Stockton Graham, C.J. Wiseman, Kaleb Wooten, Ethan Warrick, Sam Campin and Shawn McKinley stayed close to each other throughout the postseason event. All six Blue Devils finished in the top 20 spots of the race.
Graham (3rd, 17:18.24) claimed a place in the top ten and won his third career district medal. C.J. Wiseman (11th, 17:44.65) earned his second career district honor, and Kaleb Wooten (15th, 17:49.89) pocketed his first individual district award. Ethan Warrick (17th, 18:08.02), Sam Campin (18th, 18:25.89) and Shawn McKinley (19th, 18:31.17) helped the Blue Devils secure the second-place finish.
Graham, Wiseman, Wooten, Warrick and McKinley all lowered their times from last year’s district race, which was held on the same Omaha Skutt course. Campin competed in the first postseason event of his career.
The Class B State Meet will take place on Friday, Oct. 19, at Kearney Country Club. The Blue Devils will run against their state opponents at 1:30 p.m.
