Wildcats bring home league softball honors

2021 All-Nebraska Capitol Conference Softball Selections from Cass County

Nebraska Capitol Conference coaches honored four students from the Cass Wildcats roster for their work on softball diamonds this season.

Cass seniors Mati Steckler and Morgan McAndrew and juniors Ella Aaberg and Ali Gansemer received NCC postseason recognition. Steckler was named to the second team and McAndrew, Aaberg and Gansemer captured honorable mention accolades.

Steckler ended the campaign with a .382 batting average and .462 on-base percentage. She generated 26 hits, 20 runs batted in, 21 runs scored, five doubles, one triple and one sacrifice fly. She drew ten walks and reached base five times on errors. She also stole nine bases for the team.

Steckler helped the Wildcats in the infield with 53 defensive assists. She was involved in two double plays.

McAndrew gave Cass a boost at the plate with a .333 batting average and .394 on-base percentage. She finished the year with ten hits, nine runs, eight RBI, one double, one triple, one home run and two walks. She was struck once by a pitch and reached twice on errors.

McAndrew produced 33 defensive assists and 16 putouts for the Wildcats in the infield. She was involved in one double play.

Aaberg was the top pitcher for the Wildcats this season. She finished 6-11 with a 6.92 earned run average in 26 appearances. She tossed 1,937 pitches during her 112 1/3 innings of work. She registered 82 strikeouts in the pitching circle and made 25 defensive assists.

Aaberg also helped Cass at the plate during the campaign. She batted .235 and had a .426 on-base percentage. She generated 12 hits, 16 walks, 18 runs, four RBI and three sacrifice bunts. She used her quickness to collect ten steals.

Gansemer posted a .258 batting average and .313 on-base percentage. She compiled 16 hits, 12 RBI, 15 runs and five walks at the plate. She also stole five bases throughout the fall.

Gansemer produced a .949 fielding percentage at first base for the Wildcats. She collected 126 putouts and made four defensive assists. She was involved in four double plays this season.

Students from Arlington, Ashland-Greenwood, Cass, DC West/Omaha Concordia, Fort Calhoun, Logan View/Scribner-Snyder, Raymond Central, Syracuse and Yutan/Mead earned NCC softball honors.
