Dawn M. Flor, 44 years, of Fremont died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019.

The funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation is Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Moser Memorial Chapel and will continue Thursday one hour prior to the service. Burial at Ridge Cemetery in Fremont.

Florence M. Sobolik

November 10, 1922 – January 10, 2019

Florence M. Sobolik, 96 years, of Fremont passed away Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019, at Dunklau Gardens in Fremont. She was born Nov. 10, 1922, in South Sioux City, Nebraska, to Ray and Mary (Dickerson) VanHorn.

She grew up in Sioux City, Iowa, and Wakefield, Nebraska. She moved to Fremont in 1932 where she has lived since. Florence married Donald H. Sobolik on Aug. 18, 1945, in Marysville, Kansas. He preceded her in death Oct. 26, 2002. She was a member of Fremont Alliance Church.

Florence is survived by daughter, Mary Helen (Bob) Butler of Casper, Wyoming; grandchildren, Robert Butler and Michael (Annette) Butler; nieces, Rae Riley, Jacci Dennehy, and Betty Palmer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, and five sisters.

The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation on Monday, 4-6 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be at Ridge Cemetery in Fremont.

Memorials may be directed to Fremont Alliance Church or Lions Club International.

Diane Nadine Schacht

December 7, 1947 – January 10, 2019

Diane Nadine Schacht, age 71, passed into the loving arms of her heavenly Father at Bryan East Hospital in Lincoln on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019. She was born Dec. 7, 1947, in Nebraska City, Nebraska, the first daughter of Marvin and Vivian (Vermule) Schacht. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Evangelical and Reformed Church near Cook, Nebraska.

Diane was a member of St. Paul’s UCC Church, the Osage Women’s Fellowship, DAR, Eastern Star, Missouri State Teachers Assoc., Missouri Assoc. of School Librarians, and Delta Kappa Gamma.

Diane was preceded in death by her parents and younger sister, Joycelin Schacht. She is survived by her sister, Anita, and husband Ron Bowman of Fremont; nieces and nephew, Elizabeth and husband Ken Halvorsen and Dr. Erik and wife Crystal Bowman, all of Lincoln, and Alicia and husband Dr. Erich Schafer of Fremont, Michigan. Also great-nephews and great-nieces, Jordan Satter, Kaitlyn Halvorsen, Zahara, Ainsley, and Halia Bowman, and Brigham and Ellianna Schafer.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Jan. 13, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, near Cook, at 1:30 p.m. Fusselman-Allen-Harvey Funeral Home of Syracuse is in charge of arrangements.

Raymond "Ray" James Mitchell

October 21, 1922 – January 9, 2019

Raymond “Ray” James Mitchell, age 96, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019, at Nye Legacy.

Ray was born to Robert and Aletha Mitchell on Oct. 21, 1922, in Grandview, Washington. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp when he was 20 years old and served from 1942-1945. He was a POW for 1 year in Germany.

Ray Mitchell married Delma Ernst in Denver on Dec. 8, 1945.

Ray retired as a foreman from Hormel’s in 1977 after 30 years of employment. Ray was a longtime member of the Fremont Golf Club, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing pool, but his love was the game of golf.

Ray and Delma lived in Fremont most of their lives. One of their greatest joys was spending time with the many friends they had in Fremont.

Preceded in death by his parents, wife of 64 years Delma, two brothers, and one sister.

Survived by: daughters, Marcia Mitchell of Omaha, Donna (Gregg) Mitchell of Omaha; son, Monte Mitchell of Woodland Park, Colorado; grandchildren, Molly (Scott) Slater, Kimberly (Aaron) Broweleit, Kylie Mitchell, Mackenzie Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Liam and Sidney Slater; many other nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Memorials have been established to the Ray Mitchell Golf Scholarship (c/o Fremont Area Community Foundation, 1005 E. 23rd St., Suite 2, Fremont, NE, 68025) and Trinity Lutheran Church.

Dennis Vandersnick

August 30, 1949—January 11, 2019

A Funeral Mass for Dennis Vandersnick, age 69, of O’Neill and formerly of rural Ewing, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at St. Peter de Alcantara Catholic Church in Ewing, Nebraska, with Father John Norman officiating. Military rites will be provided by the Ewing American Legion Sanders Post 214. Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at Biglin’s Mortuary in O’Neill with a 7 p.m. scripture service. Dennis passed away on Friday, Jan. 11, at the Neligh Care and Rehabilitation Center in Neligh. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. Biglin’s Mortuary in O’Neill is in charge of arrangements.

Dennis is survived by his wife 47 years, Cathy Vandersnick of O’Neill; his granddaughter, Emily Vandersnick and her fiancé, Cody Lira, of Omaha; his mother, Florence Vandersnick of O’Neill; his siblings, Barbara Carrizales of Broken Bow, Mardell (Hugh) Shoemaker of O’Neill, Marty (Deb) Vandersnick of Creighton, Rita Meyer of Orchard; one sister-in-law, Sue Hoke of O’Neill; family friend, Pat Davis of Fremont; many nieces and nephews.

Deloris F. McDermott

Deloris F. McDermott, age 94, of Fremont died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019, at home.

Deloris was born March 6, 1924, in Orchard, Nebraska, to Leonard and Edna (Morlan) Walton. She was raised in Orchard where she graduated high school. She married Roland F. (Mac) McDermott on Feb. 19, 1949, in Valley. The couple lived in Norfolk and Lyons before eventually settling in Fremont. For 16 years, Deloris worked at Pendleton Woolen Mills. After her retirement Deloris enjoyed bowling and camping. She loved to bake cookies, which she did frequently for the Telephone Pioneers of America Club and Trinity Youth Bake Sales.

Deloris was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America Club in Fremont.

Survivors: daughter, Linda McDermott of Fremont; son, Robert (Lorna) McDermott of Omaha; daughter-in-law, Susie McDermott of Fremont; 5 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Deloris was preceded in death by her husband Mac in 1986, son Jim in 2006 and three brothers, Delaine, Wilford and Gordon Walton.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont with the Rev. Dan Heuer officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont will be Monday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. with the family present from 5-7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Youth or the Fremont Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
