Mobile center

The mobile diabetes center will be on display Thursday night at Fremont Golf Club when the Fremont Cosmopolitan Club 100 meets. The public is invited.

The public is invited to see a new $300,000 mobile diabetic center when the Fremont Cosmopolitan Club 100 meets Thursday evening at Fremont Golf Club.

The new unit will be in the Fremont Golf Club parking lot from 5-6:30 p.m., for guests and members to tour, with cocktails and a light buffet dinner scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.

Cost for the buffet, which includes soda, tea, water, tax and tip, is $12.

The guest speaker will be Jerry Nelson, Cosmopolitan Diabetic Center board of directors’ representative. Nelson will speak after the meal. The event is open to the public.

For years, the local Cosmopolitan club has helped sponsor a clinic that provides free diabetes screenings to the public on the Friday of the John C. Fremont Days festival.

The Cornbelt Diabetes Connection partners with Nebraska Methodist College to provide the screenings.

The American Diabetes Association states that diabetes is growing at an epidemic rate in the United States.

Nearly 30 million Americans have diabetes, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The ADA also said 1.4 million Americans are diagnosed with diabetes every year.
