Jake Burnside's family reported that his condition has been upgraded to serious, and that he is awake, responding to questions and speaking.
Burnside, 16, of Fremont, was injured in a traffic accident on June 3. He was flown by medical helicopter to Creighton where he was listed in critical condition. Three other Fremont teens died as a result of the accident.
"He's moving his arms and both his legs, which leads us to be very hopeful," his parents, Carter and Karen Burnside, said in a statement issued through the Creighton University Medical Center public affairs office this morning.
"Doctors are hoping to get him into a rehabilitation program at Madonna (Rehabilitation Center) as soon as possible," the statement said.
"Thanks to everyone for your thoughts, prayers and support," it said. "Please continue to keep the Block, Hansen and Walling families in your prayers."
