A Lincoln man has been arrested in connection to a shooting early Dec. 6 that left a man critically wounded.
Investigators with the Lincoln Police Department got a warrant for the arrest of 41-year-old January Wheeler last week on charges of first-degree assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony.
At about midnight Thursday, law enforcement officers arrested him at a hotel in Beatrice in an effort that involved the U.S. Marshals Service, Gage County Sheriff's Office and the Nebraska State Patrol, according to Officer Luke Bonkiewicz.
Wheeler now is at the Lancaster County jail.
Police say at about 12:30 a.m. Dec. 6, they were called to the 200 block of Blue Flame Road, near First and Adams streets. The caller heard an argument, then gunshots.
Officers arrived to find a blood trail to a home and bullet casings outside but searched and didn't find anyone there.
In the meantime, Brandon Wagner, 37, showed up at a Lincoln hospital shot three times in the torso and back. Officer Erin Spilker said the man who lived at the home on Blue Flame Road had dropped him off.
Wagner's injuries initially were life-threatening. Because of his need for medical attention, officers weren't able to question him until recently.
Spilker said the man, who remains hospitalized, identified Wheeler as the man who shot him.
She said police don't yet know the motive.
