A Fremont man was arrested on Sunday morning at 10:10 a.m. after allegedly shooting his neighbor's dog with a rifle.

Robert R. Ranslem, 75, was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty for the shooting, which left the dog with non-life threatening injuries, according to the Fremont Police Department.

Ranslem claimed that the dog had been aggressive toward him prior to the shooting, but witnesses contradicted his allegation, police said.
