A 40-year-old Fairfield man who went to check on cattle Tuesday was killed in an attack by a bull, Nuckolls County Sheriff Brad Baker said.
The man's girlfriend went to check on him at about 7 p.m. after he didn't return home, Baker said in a Facebook post.
She found the 40-year-old in a field southwest of Deweese and called 911.
Authorities identified the victim as Kenneth Volz, television station KSNB reported.
Volz had gone into the area where cows and a bull were kept, Baker said. At some point the bull attacked him and he was unable to escape, the post said.
