A Fremont resident was defrauded out of over $2800 after falling victim to a phone scam, according to the Fremont Police Department.

On Thursday, the victim reported the fraud to the local police department saying she received a phone call from a man who told her that her social security number had been used fraudulently and her identity had been stolen.

The victim was instructed to send money via Good Play gift cards. The victim dis as instructed and later realized she had been scammed.

The dollar loss reported by the victim was $2825.
