A woman reported being the victim of a phone scam after a caller posed as a law enforcement official, according to the Fremont Police Department.
Police say that on Friday at approximately 5:20 p.m. a fraud was reported at the Fremont Police Station where the victim reported that she received a phone call that her granddaughter had been arrested and was in need of bail money.
According to the Fremont Police Department, the victim purchased four gift cards totaling over $3,500 and then called a phone number and provided the gift card numbers to a person she believed to be a law enforcement official.
The victim later realized she had been scammed, leading her to report the incident to the police.
There are currently no known suspects.
