Opal M. Olson, 85, of Lincoln passed away May 17, 2018. Born Nov. 7, 1932, in Maskell, Nebraska, to Oscar and Anna Gunderson. Homemaker, member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. Opal grew up in Ponca, Nebraska, and graduated from Ponca High School in 1950. She was the youngest of eight children.
After graduation, Opal moved to Sioux City, Iowa, and worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. Married Laurence (Larry) F. Olson on Aug. 27, 1955, at Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca. They moved to Dayton, Ohio, and Opal worked at Ohio Bell Telephone Company while Larry served in the U.S. Air Force. Various job changes took the family to Sleepy Eye, Minnesota; Redwood Falls, Minnesota; New Ulm, Minnesota; Danville, Illinois; Burnsville, Minnesota; Fremont; and finally Lincoln. Opal’s favorite activities included cooking and hosting family and holiday dinners, spending time with family, reading, watching baseball on TV and playing pitch.
Survived by: daughters, sons-in-law, Julie (Douglas) Hedlund, Byron, Minnesota, Deborah (Luke) Wilke, Lincoln, Nancy (Daniel) Plucknett, Lincoln; grandchildren, Connor, Kelsey Hedlund, Jamie (Brett) Carroll, Corey Buller, Jack Wilke, Courtney, Austin, Emma Plucknett; great-grandchildren, Shay, Alyssa, Delaney Carroll; sister, Norma Whitman, Tulsa, Oklahoma; sister-in-law, brother-in-law, Janet and Edwin Hanson, Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Preceded in death by parents, Oscar and Anna Gunderson; mother-in-law, father-in-law, Laurence P. and Edna Olson; husband, Laurence (Larry)F. Olson; brothers, Randall, Roy Gunderson; sisters, Amy Lamprecht, DeEtte Durand, Bertha Kaspar, Shirley Wersinger; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, Marcella and Stuart Paxton, Ardith Gunderson, Florence Gunderson, George Lamprecht, George Durand, Harold Whitman; infant granddaughter, Morgan Plucknett.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. on June 9 at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 8550 Pioneers Blvd., Lincoln, with Kara Hillhouse officiating. Private family burial will be at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.
