During Wednesday’s regular meeting of Dodge County Board of Supervisors, the board approved a request from Fremont and Dodge County Convention and Visitors Bureau Improvement Funds of the Dodge County Historical Society for $40,000.

This funding will help restore the top roofline balustrade and replace the east and south porch railings of the May Museum.

Jeff Kappeler, Executive Director of the museum, said they have already raised nearly $150,000 of their $200,000 goal.

Shannon Mullen, Executive Director of CVB said the private donations have been amazing, “It’s been wonderful to see how the community recognizes what a treasure the museum is,” she said. “Not only for the entire county, but for tourists from all over and even locals who utilize it for a number of things. Mullen said the opportunities for the museum are endless.

“It’s nice to see them pay attention to the architectural integrity of the building with the upgrade and improvements we’ll be able to make.”

Kappeler said they continue to be very pleased and appreciative regarding the community support and are grateful to have received a grant from Fremont Area Community Foundation.

“The project will begin late spring depending on the favorability of the weather,” he said. “We hope to have the project competed late fall.”

The vote was 6-1. Lon Strand voted against the request.

“I thought the amount that was requested was extravagant,” Stand said. “You could build an entire house for that. I would like to see more funding go to the outlying counties in Dodge County.”

In other business, the board:

Approved recommendations to Dodge County Extension Board for 2016-2018 of the reappointments of Ms. Sue Fase and Mr. Chuck Emanuel.

Approved the renewal of the 2016/2017 Non-Class C Liquor Licenses within the County’s jurisdiction for Amoco Fuel Express and North Bend Golf Course.

Received correspondence from NIRMA (Nebraska Intergovernmental Risk Management Association) regarding Law Enforcement and Corrections Seminar April 19-22 in Columbus.

The next regular meeting of the Dodge County Board of Supervisors is scheduled for at 9:00 A.M., Wednesday, March 2, 2016, Third Floor, Courthouse, Fremont, Nebraska.
