Omaha based grain merchandising company, Hansen-Mueller Co., has announced plans to locate a state-of-the-art bagging facility for animal and pet food products in Fremont.

The firm recently purchased a 60,000 square foot facility on South Union Street to house the facility.

“We are happy to bring an expansion of our current operations to Fremont and become a part of this business community. We located an existing building that met our needs and were able to acquire that facility, ”Jack Hansen, founder and president of Hansen-Mueller Co., said in released information.

Hansen-Mueller’s new facility will be housed within the old Shade Pasta Inc. plant on South Union Street. The firm plans to begin renovations on the 60,000 square foot facility as early as next week.

“A lot of folks in town know it as the old pasta plant and it has been on the market for several years and they closed on the property recently and have plans to start construction to upgrade the facility this week,” Cecilia Harry, executive director of the Greater Fremont Development Council, said.

The operation will include conventional and organic bagging lines for animal and pet foods packaged under a number of well-known brands, private label companies, and Hansen-Mueller branded products.

The operation will take a multi-million dollar investment from the company, and the first phase of the project is expected to initially create five to 10 jobs.

Part of that investment will be upgrading the current structure of the building on South Union Street, and bringing in equipment for the operation.

“They will be upgrading the building and bringing in state-of-the-art, one-of-a-kind equipment for their packaging line,” Harry said.

The company also announced that Fremont resident, Kathy Butler has been named as Facility Manager for the operation.

“She (Butler) is a longtime resident and will be leading the operation and the rest of the team will round out the operation for the facility,” Harry said.
