Arthur “Art” Twyford

June 24, 1941 -- April 24, 2017

After 12 long years battling Alzheimer’s, Art’s suffering ended with his family nearby. Art was 75, born in Glendale, South Carolina, to Carl and Eloise Twyford. In 2014, Art and Helga moved to Venice, Florida, to enjoy a little more sunshine.

Art is survived by his wife Helga of 53 years; daughters, Katherina (Cliff) Steinhauser, Lorrie (Mark) Ranslem; son, Mike (Dawn) Twyford; and 11 grandchildren. Also, three siblings, sisters, Illeane Slocum, Marian (Jerry) Allen, and brother, Bill (Diane) Twyford.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Eloise Twyford; an infant sister; his in-laws, Gene and Katherina Young; brother in-law, Elliot Slocum; and beloved infant granddaughter, Autumn.

Art retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service. He then moved to Fremont where he was employed at Fremont Office Equipment. Art worked for several years at Omaha Public Schools before once again retiring. Lastly he worked for the Hooper Co-op.

He was active in many organizations such as the Masonic Lodge, he was a Shriner, member of Roadster II, and also a DeMolay mentor. He volunteered as a driver, transporting patients to the Shriner’s Hospital in Minneapolis. Art and Helga also sponsored Shrine Bowl players. Art spent many long days and nights helping out at the Shrine Circus.

Art was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all. As a hard worker, he enjoyed family life, life itself, gardening, and tinkering in his shop. He was always there to give a helping hand to those in need.
