Edward “Art” Hughes

HOOPER — Edward J. “Art” Hughes, age 95, of Hooper died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017, at Lakeside Hospital in Omaha.
Edward was born July 1, 1922, in Omaha to Arthur and Viola (Fletcher) Hughes. He was raised in Omaha and attended Omaha Tech High School. After his schooling Edward began a long career in the HVAC industry. Edward married Della Gardner at Kountz Memorial Lutheran Church in Omaha on Nov. 13, 1948. They enjoyed square dancing with the “Belles and Beaus” square dancing club and going to Nebraska Cornhusker away football games. After their marriage they lived in Omaha and Colorado before move to Hooper in March of this year to be close to family.
Survivors include: his wife, Della of Hooper; daughters, Barbara (Edward) Hermsen of Panama City Beach, Florida, and Janice (Jacob) Ward of Hooper; grandchildren, Ed (Tracie) Hermsen, Brian Hermsen, Stephanie (Brent Cerney) Oldaker, Patricia Ward, McKayla Ward, Dale Ward and Jonathan Ward; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Luke, Levi, Wave, Island; brother, Gene Hughes of Omaha; and brother-in-law, Tom Gardner of Omaha.
Edward was preceded in death by a sister.
The celebration of Edward’s life will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Memorials are suggested to the Dodge County Humane Society or Nebraska Humane Society in Omaha.
