FREMONT — Hilda D. Wittmann, 100 years, of Fremont died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018, at Nye Legacy in Fremont. Hilda was born Dec. 10, 1917, in rural Herman to John and Emma (Bohling) Katt.
She grew up at Herman and moved to Winslow in 1926 and was a graduate of Winslow High School. Hilda married Wallace E. Wittmann on Jan. 14, 1940, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Winslow. The couple farmed in the Herman, Hooper and Winslow areas. She worked for several years in the kitchen at Logan View School. Wallace died Dec. 15, 1988. Hilda moved to Fremont in December of 1990. She later moved to Nye Square where she was active in their activities.
She was a former member of St. John’s Lutheran Church at Hooper, where she was a member of the LWML, AAL, Ladies Aid, Altar Guild and their quilting group. Hilda was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont, volunteered at church and was a member of the Grand Generation, Tabitha Society and Good Shepherd Tabitha Quilter’s. She enjoyed working with her flowers and gardens.
She is survived by daughters, Alice (James) Dam of Hooper, Dorothy (Anton) Beck and Sharon (Steven) Cole, all of Rockford, Ill.; brother, Elmer (Norma) Katt of Herman; son-in-law, Larry Homes of Fremont; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Irene Homes; and sister, Orletha Katt.
The funeral service will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont. Visitation will be Friday from 5-8 p.m. and with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m., all at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the Concordia Seminary.
Burial will be at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.
