Karilyn A. Alberts

Karilyn A. Alberts, age 83, of Scribner died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019, at Parkview Home in Dodge.

Karilyn was born Nov. 1, 1935, in Fremont to Oltman and Wilma (Hasemann) Hilbers. She was baptized March 1, 1936, and confirmed on Nov. 6, 1949. She was raised on a farm west of Uehling and graduated from Scribner High School in 1953. After high school she attended Wayne State Teachers College and obtained her teaching certificate. She taught at District 29 for a few years. She married Donald Alberts on June 24, 1956, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, north of Hooper. After their marriage the couple moved to a farm east of Snyder where they lived until moving into Scribner.

Karilyn had been an organist at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Snyder. She was a member at St. Peter’s until it closed and the couple transferred their membership to Grace Lutheran Church in West Point, where they currently are members. Karilyn enjoyed doing ceramics, painting and loved to bake bread and rolls.

Survivors: husband, Donald of Scribner; sons, ValGene (Cindy) Alberts of Hooper, Vaughn Alberts of Larkspur, Colorado, and his son Trenton, DelRay (Cathy) Alberts of Arlington, Texas, Dean (Kim) Alberts of Scribner and their son Matthew, Byron (friend Shellie Brainard) Alberts of Scribner; many stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Anita (Robert) Backhus of Effingham, Illinois; brothers, Gene (Marlene) Hilbers of Hooper, Raymond (Pauline) Hilbers of Warsaw, Missouri, Vernon (Dianne) Hilbers of Lyons, Dennis (Kathy) Hilbers of Hooper and Loran (Robin) Hilbers of Hooper.

Karilyn was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Wayne.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church in West Point. The Rev. Priscilla Hukki will officiate. Lunch will follow the service with the burial in St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery in Snyder following the lunch. Visitation will be Friday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Ludvigsen’s Scribner Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Parkview Home Activity Fund.
