FREMONT -- Wanda M. Brabec, 91 years, of Fremont died Monday, Sept. 4, 2017, at her home. Wanda was born March 18, 1926, in Fremont to George and Dora (Sukstorf) Welty.
She grew up at Cedar Bluffs and was a 1944 graduate of Cedar Bluffs High School. She moved to Fremont and was employed at the Nebraska Ordnance Plant at Mead during World War II. She lived at Osceola and managed the Gambles Store there.
She moved to Kansas in the mid-1950s and taught at rural schools. She returned to Fremont and taught at rural schools in Dodge, Washington and Saunders counties and at St. Patrick's Grade School in Fremont and also helped run the family farm. Wanda graduated from Dana College in 1968 with a Master's Degree. She retired in the early 1980s.
Wanda married Otto Brabec on Oct. 31, 1949, in Wahoo. Otto died April 21, 2015.
Wanda was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, St. Pat's Quilting Group and the Golden K Kiwanis Club. She enjoyed aquanastics at the YMCA, and playing Pinochle and Canasta.
Wanda is survived by sons, Marlin (Marla) Brabec of Fremont and John (Jackie) Brabec of Essex, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Janet Brabec of Fremont; eight grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Bill Brabec; and sisters, Lucille Banghart and Anna Nowak.
The funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont. A Catholic Daughters Rosary will be at 7 p.m. on Friday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation on Friday from 5-8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6-7 p.m. all at Moser's. Burial will be 1:15 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Cemetery in Fremont. Memorials may be given to Bergan Elementary School Endowment Fund or to the Fremont Family YMCA.
