William “Bill” C. Shannon, 76 years, of Fremont died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2018, at his home. William was born March 16, 1942, at Parkin, Arkansas, to Johnnie and Violet (Wood) Shannon.
He attended high school at York, Nebraska. He was a bull rider at rodeos in his younger years. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Cuban Missile Crisis from Feb. 1, 1961, until April 30, 1965. William married Shirley Rich on Jan. 8, 1966, in York. He lived in Cozad, York, Larimer, Colorado, and then moved to Fremont in 1972. He worked at Fremont Alfalfa Mill in Fremont and then attended Dan Baer’s School of Flying in York. He was the owner and operator of Shannon Aerial Spraying from 1974 until his retirement in 2008.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont and the Nebraska Aviation Trades Association (NATA) and was a board member for many years and also served as past president.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Fremont; son, Bret (Jennifer) Shannon of Lincoln; daughter, Lisa Zornes of Omaha; brother, Steve (Kathy) Shannon of North Platte; sister, Barb (Don) Miller of Sun City, Arizona; sister-in-law, Barbara Ann Shannon of Southhaven, Mississippi; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Bob Shannon and Jim Shannon.
Please honor Bill by wearing casual attire … boots and all.
Memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont. The Rev. Dan Heuer will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial with Military Honors will be at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Trinity Lutheran School.
