Keene Memorial Library recently started two new programs for those dealing with complicated technology or research issues. Those programs are Digital Drop-In and Book-A-Librarian.
Digital Drop-In is a time set aside to work with library staff on technology issues on your devices – iPad, laptop, smartphone, Kindle, tablets, etc. We can help with setting up email accounts, getting access to library resources (downloadable materials from OverDrive, RBDigital or Freegal), and navigating Facebook just to name a few topics. The next scheduled Drop-in is Monday, February 18 from 2-4 pm. It’s a drop-in so you don’t need to be present the entire time. And as with many of our services, no library card is required for us to help you.
Book-a-Librarian is similar to the Digital Drop-in but you can schedule the time for a one-on-one consultation with a staff member. We have helped with technology questions, job searching, resumes, and other research requests. We also have staff available to help with non-tech questions like literacy/reading skills, English/Spanish tutoring and even sewing! (We don’t do taxes or answer medical/legal questions.)
You can schedule your Book-a-Librarian time by calling the library or by going online to the library’s webpage (fremontne.gov/library). There’s a link to the Book-a-Librarian form on the lefthand side of the page. Simply fill in your name, the purpose of your request (job searching, computer questions), how long you need (30 minutes or an hour), a suggested time for the meeting and a way to contact you. We do request 24 hours’ notice to be able to staff the requests. Once again, no library card is required for you to schedule an appointment.
We hope that more people will take advantage of these opportunities. We enjoy helping people with their information needs – it’s what we do!
