A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about some changes that will be coming to our Online Library platform. We have spent nearly a year negotiating with our library software provider to purchase a new platform for our online access. We have finally implemented our new Enterprise platform which will eventually replace our current online catalog and our web access. For now, we will leave the online catalog and web pages the same, but will add links so you can preview the new platform before we make the switch later this year.

The most impressive part of this new platform is that we have been able to add a special catalog just for kids. The Enterprise for Kids layer allows parents to bookmark just this page. When children search for materials on this page, they only get back children’s materials. We also will have our kids web pages linked here so you can find everything you need in one place.

The other amazing benefit of the new platform is that the electronic resources are being pulled into the search function. What this means for patrons is that instead of having to go into Overdrive to find eBooks and audiobooks, you can search right in Enterprise and then download right from the catalog. No more going from one eResource to another to download online content: get it all right from one spot!

The rollout of the new platform will be slow, with both old and new available for a period of time. This will allow patrons time to learn the new platform before the old one is moved into the permanent interface. Our goal is to let patrons become fully immersed in the new platform before switching over to the new platform permanently. We want to educate, train, and offer assistance throughout the process to make the transition as easy and painless as possible.
