This year, Keene Memorial Library’s large “Christmas” tree, located on the west side or Broad Street side, is going to get a slight makeover for Christmas. Thanks to a private donor, the tree will receive some additional love this year as part of a celebration of inspiration and hope. We will be adding some new lights, a few furniture fixtures around the tree, and some extra yard accessories. The Tree of White Lights will still be beautifully decorated with white lights and some of the additional furniture pieces will represent hope and inspiration. So come check out the new furniture and lights next week during the lighting celebration.

The extra enhancements for the tree are part of an “Inspiration & Hope” campaign aimed at uniting the community behind something positive that will inspire future good will for the community. As Henry Ford once said, “If everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself”. The donor would like to create a sense of community and unite community members in this grand Tree of White Lights. With the library expansion project looming on the horizon, and seeing the wonderful community support for the project, tying the Tree of White Lights, the library, and “inspiration & hope” together seemed like a natural collaboration.

On November 15th, from 5:30-7:30 pm, the library and Friends of Keene Memorial Library, will be hosting a Celebration of Inspiration and Hope focusing on the lighting of the Tree of White Lights. Marianne Simmons will be present to press the switch on the lights and speak about the history of the white lights in Fremont. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be available on the 2nd floor for photos and to share in the lighting event. The Boy Scouts will be providing a flag ceremony and the Girl Scouts will be caroling and helping with the event. The event will kick off at 5:30 with the tree lighting at 6:00 pm.

There will be snacks available including cookies, hot cocoa, and coffee; the cookies courtesy of the grant funds donated to the Friends group and the drinks courtesy of Milady Coffeehouse. The event will be a chance for everyone to celebrate the joys of the holidays and to be a part of something inspiring and uniting. The Tree of White Lights is the perfect focus for this event as it will inspire and create a sense of hope.

Tina Walker is Director of Keene Memorial Library in Fremont.
