Midland University handed Morningside its first Great Plains Athletic Conference men's soccer loss of the season on Wednesday night at Heedum Field.
The Warriors rallied from a 2-0 deficit to down the Mustangs 3-2. The win improves MU to 8-5 overall, including 5-1 in the conference. The Mustangs fall to 8-4-1 overall, including 6-1 in the league.
Morningside led 2-0 until Midland's James Kilburn scored on a free kick with :02 left in the opening half.
In the 69th minute, Christian Sanchez of the Warriors scored his first goal of the season to tie it.
In the 72nd minute, the Mustangs fouled inside the box giving Midland a chance to pull ahead with a penalty kick. Kilburn was called upon to take the kick and connected to put the Warriors up 3-2.
“I’m proud of the fight, effort, and urgency the guys played with in the second half," Midland coach Raphael Martinez said. "Now if we could only start the game that way it would be great”
Midland will play Mount Marty at 8 Saturday night in Yankton, S.D.
