DODGE CITY, Kansas — Fifth-ranked University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma used a three-run third inning to down Midland 9-2 Wednesday in the NAIA regional softball tournament.
Midland trailed 2-0 entering the top of the second, but Andrea Cespedes hit a two-run double to tie it.
The Drovers went ahead for good with the three-run third. Shania Beck had a RBI double while Caitlin Hall delivered a two-run single.
Jaylee Hinrichs took the loss. She allowed seven earned runs on 10 hits in five innings of work. She walked one and struck out four. Madison Plummer worked the final inning. She allowed two unearned runs on two hits.
Cespedes had two hits and two RBI. Alexis Oden and Jamie Phares scored a run each. Senior Nicole O’Haver and Bobbi Singleton had one hit each for MU.
Emily Cerny got the win. She threw a complete game and allowed four hits and nine walks. She also struck out nine.
Randa Hatter had three hits and three RBI for the Drovers, 53-5, who advance to the NAIA World Series.
Midland’s season ends at 36-17.
